Opening of Festival

Don’t miss the opening of the festival – join in the fun of the Drakes Moonta Parade and Street Party – George Street, Moonta is filled with fun and exciting events all day with a street parade, Maypole, Furry Dance, Markets, Pasty Bake-Off and entertainment. One of the most popular events the Maypole dance dates back to the 18th century. Children dressed in traditional costume perform this dance. The Pasty Bake-Off – local students and VIP Guests back off in a race to make the best pasty from scratch – floats, bands, special guests, markets, all add to the excitement of the day.

Newbery Chemists Kernewek Lowender Art Prize Official Opening is held at the Ascot Gallery in Kadina. View the collection, meet the artists, enjoy the music, purchase works of art. The exhibition will be open from Saturday 18th to 23rd May from 9am - 4pm daily. Be there for the presentation of the announcement of the biennial award to this festivals winners.
