Dressing of the Graves Press Release
Dressing the Graves subcommittee for the next Kernewek Lowender met on 8 March 2016 to begin planning for the 2017 Dressing the Graves ceremonies. Dressing the Graves is a project sponsored by the Cornish Association of South Australia in conjunction with Kernewek Lowender which remembers and honours the lives of our ancestors.
Unfortunately, Ros Paterson OAM, past Convenor has resigned from the sub committee due to ill health. Ros’s vision in creating this unique event and her professional and untiring attention has assisted in developing the ceremony into the highly regarded Kernewek Lowender event it has become since its inception in the 2001 Kernewek Lowender. Two hundred and fifty (250) pioneer ancestors have been honoured since that time.
Ros Paterson’s insistence on detail, accuracy and excellence, and her mentoring of the towns’ Dressing the Graves working parties, has created an ongoing valuable legacy for the Copper Coast and family history research per se, and has made the program well grounded to continue strongly into the future. Ros has been a vital driving component in the creation and development of the unique event that has become Dressing the Graves, and its related publications.
The Co-ordinator’s role has been passed on to Robyn Knight who is a Senior Research Volunteer at the National Trust’s Moonta Family History Resource Centre.
The 2017 Dressing the Graves ceremonies will be held on Tuesday 16th May at Greens Plains West (10:30am) and Wallaroo (1:30pm) and on Wednesday 17th May at Kadina (10:30am) and Moonta ( 1:30pm). Nominations must be received by 30th September 2016.
